Alabama Women’s Tennis Remains at Home with Doubleheaders on Friday and Sunday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team will host another pair of doubleheaders on Friday, Feb. 8 to Georgia State at 1 p.m. CT and UT Martin at 6 p.m. CT, and then on Sunday, Feb. 10 against Kennesaw State at 10 a.m. and Lipscomb at 4 p.m. CT, at the Alabama Tennis Stadium. The team will play either indoors or outdoors depending on the weather an hour before match time.
Alabama remains unbeaten sporting a 4-0 record, including three shutouts. The Crimson Tide has had a week to rest after three road matches in Southern California were canceled last weekend due to inclement weather.
PROMOTIONS
Friday matches will mark the annual Bama Salute Military Appreciation Day, and UA Athletic Director Greg Byrne will get things rolling by hitting the honorary first serve at 1 p.m.
Sunday's matches will mark West Alabama Catholics Night and free food will be provided.
ABOUT ALABAMA
The Crimson Tide has picked up four wins at home so far during its 2019 campaign, while combining for a 23-1 record in individual singles play. UA is also 9-0 in doubles matches with juniors Ann Selim and Kimberley Gintrand compiling a 4-0 mark.
Senior Andie Daniell comes into the weekend ranked No. 47 in singles, while posting a 2-0 record to begin the season. The Tide has three different players that have a 4-0 record in singles action, with Gintrand, junior Jacqueline Pelletier and newcomer Moka Ito.
SCOUTING REPORT
Georgia State (1-2) is coming off a 12-win season that saw the team win the Sun Belt title for the second time in three years. The Panthers return four players from last season's NCAA Tournament team. The Tide owns a 7-0 series advantage, after the last meeting ended in Alabama finishing 6-1, on Feb. 1, 2014, in Tuscaloosa.
Kennesaw State is off to slow 0-6 start to the season, including a 1-6 loss to UAB last weekend. The Owls and Tide will square off Sunday for the first time in program history.
Lipscomb and Alabama will meet for the second time in program history after the Crimson Tide swept the Bison 6-0 in the inaugural matchup, on Jan. 21, 2018, in Tuscaloosa.
Friday's encounter will mark the first-ever dual match against UT Martin. The Skyhawks (0-0) will face Samford on Thursday before meeting the Tide.
