Alabama Women’s Tennis to Play No. 22 Illinois in the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic

The Crimson Tide will take on the Fighting Illini on Friday at 9 a.m. CT
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team is set to play No. 22 Illinois on Friday morning at 9 a.m. CT at Lagoon Park in Montgomery, Ala., in the 71st Blue Gray National Tennis Classic.
The Crimson Tide will begin the Blue Gray event by taking on the Fighting Illini Friday morning, before completing the doubles portion of the second match against Yale or Wake Forest in the afternoon. Singles play will continue on Saturday, along with a final opponent to be announced after the morning matches.
So far this spring season, Alabama owns a 9-1 record, including an impressive six shutouts. Senior No. 62 Andie Daniell leads the Tide in the No. 1 position with a 5-2 singles record, and a 5-0 doubles mark with partner sophomore Moka Ito. Junior Alba Cortina Pou boasts an 8-0 record in singles, while junior Kimberley Gintrand stands at 5-0.
Illinois comes into the tournament as the No. 2 seed in the eight-team tournament, with No. 13 Oklahoma State claiming the top-seed. The Fighting Illini (4-3) enter Friday's match with a four-match win streak, after dropping its first two matches of the spring season against then-No. 16 Kansas and then-No. 21 Virginia.
Teams participating in the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic include: Alabama, Auburn, Fresno State, No. 22 Illinois, No. 13 Oklahoma State, No. 35 Texas Tech, No. 33 Wake Forest, and Yale.
