Fans Encouraged to Arrive Early Saturday
We are looking forward to having over 100,000 of our closest friends here on campus this weekend for Saturday's football game in Bryant-Denny Stadium. Due to heightened security and larger crowds, we recommend fans arrive well in advance of the 2:30 p.m. start time to be expedited through the security screening process. To help, we will now be opening gates up three hours prior to kick time (11:30 a.m.) and will also open concessions early and broadcast games in progress from around the country and the Walk of Champions on the video boards.
A few other reminders as we get closer to game day:
- Prohibited Items: Please be sure to look over the list of prohibited items and information on the screening process for Saturday's game. Enhanced security measures will not allow metal cups, such as Yetis, into the stadium, and all items must be removed from pockets, and buttons removed and placed in bins, before walking through the metal detectors.
- ESPN's College GameDay and SEC Network's SEC Nation in Town: As a reminder, both ESPN's College GameDay and the SEC Network's SEC Nation will broadcast live from campus on Saturday morning. College GameDay will be set up on the northeast corner of the Quad near Lloyd Hall with live hits beginning at 6 a.m. and the show running from 8-11 a.m. SEC Nation will take place on the lawn in front of Moore Hall with the pit opening at 6:30 a.m. for fans and the show airing from 8-11 a.m.
- Mercedes-Benz Fan Fest: Mercedes-Benz Fan Fest, located outside the north end of Bryant-Denny Stadium, will open at 9 a.m. Unique to this game within Fan Fest will be the Nissan Heisman House.
- Counterfeit Tickets: If fans have any doubt about the validity of their tickets, they can visit the UA Athletic Ticket Office at Coleman Coliseum to verify their tickets during regular business hours, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. On game day, those tickets can be verified beginning at 10 a.m. by University officials on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium by reporting to Gate 3 or Gate 32. Officials will be available at those gates to examine any tickets.
Baseball, Volleyball and Men's Basketball in Action
In addition to Saturday's football game, we've got a host of other events on campus here over the next couple days, beginning with baseball's intrasquad Fall World Series on Friday at 2:30 p.m. Later that night, volleyball hosts Missouri at 7 p.m. in Foster Auditorium and returns to the court on Sunday for a 2 p.m. start against Tennessee. Our men's basketball team rounds out the four consecutive days of home events with Monday night's contest versus Florida Atlanta, beginning at 7 p.m. Admission to baseball's scrimmage is free, while tickets to volleyball and men's basketball can be purchased through the Alabama Ticket Office.
1-2 Finish at SEC Men's Cross Country Championships
Congratulations to seniors Vincent Kiprop and Gilbert Kigen for taking first and second, respectively, at the Southeastern Conference Cross Country Championships, leading our men to a second-place team finish. For Vincent, the seventh men's individual cross country champion in UA history, it was his second SEC cross country title. Rookie Mercy Chelangat took 10th to lead our women to a fifth-place finish. Both the men and women have the NCAA South Regional up next.
Soccer Earns Win at SEC Tournament
Our soccer team picked up a first-round win over Auburn in the Southeastern Conference Tournament in Orange Beach, Ala., earlier this week, knocking off the Tigers 2-1 in overtime. Junior Casey Wertz notched our first goal while freshman Macy Clem clinched the win in OT. Head Coach Wes Hart and company were edged by Vanderbilt 2-1 in the second round, with Nealy Martin netting our goal in the second half.
Classroom Champions
We're two SEC Championships into the 2019-20 academic year and the Crimson Tide has come away with a pair of SEC Scholar-Athlete honors, bumping our total since 2003 to 54. Two-time SEC champion Vincent Kiprop earned the honor for men's cross country, while 2018 CoSIDA Academic All-District winner Nealy Martin brought home the soccer honor. Vincent carries a 4.0 in his graduate studies after graduating with his undergraduate degree sporting a 3.87 GPA. Nealy carries a 4.0 GPA in chemical engineering.
Honoring Champions
In the midst of all that is going on during Saturday's game vs. LSU, we will honor our NCAA champions from last season between the first and second quarter, including swimming and diving's 200 medley relay of Zane Waddell, Laurent Bams, Knox Auerbach and Robert Howard, along with track and field's Shelby McEwen, the 2019 indoor high jump champion. In addition to their national titles, Zane won a World Championship in the 50 backstroke while Robert was part of Team USA's winning 400 freestyle relay at the World University Games, and Shelby represented the United States at the World Championships in October. Robert and Laurent are both two-time Academic All-Americans with Laurent being named the 2019 At-Large Team Academic All-American of the Year. Robert, Laurent, Knox and Shelby have all earned their Alabama degrees, while Zane is on track to graduate in May.
Bryant Society Induction
The Bryant Society is the pinnacle of the Crimson Tide Foundation's Lifetime Giving Society, which was created to recognize the lifetime contributions of donors who philanthropically support Alabama Athletics. Friday evening, we will have the privilege of honoring the 2019 class of Bryant Society inductees. The first Bryant Society Induction Ceremony in 2015 honored the original 16 donors whose contributions, at that time, to the Crimson Tide Foundation had reached at least $1 million. Due to the generosity of our loyal supporters, this has become an annual event giving us the opportunity to formally recognize and induct new Bryant Society members during a black-tie ceremony and dinner.
We are especially excited for tonight's Bryant Society Induction Ceremony and Dinner as we will honor the largest class of inductees since the first event in 2015. The 12 families to be inducted include: Â
- Melinda and Edward K. Aldag, Jr.
- Mary Virginia and Bill Best
- Rebecca and Norman Estes
- Susan and Grayson Hall
- Dr. Douglas C. Lanier, Jr.
- Kathy and Raymond McCaffrey
- Joel McMahon
- Rene and Keith Palmer
- Sexton Family Foundation - honoring Bill Sexton
- Joan and W. Stancil Starnes
- Denise and Phil Webb
- Susan and Rod Wilkin
In addition to tonight's festivities, they will also be recognized on the field during halftime at the game against LSU. Please give them a round of applause on Saturday to thank them for their commitment to Alabama Athletics. We are profoundly thankful for the generosity of all of our Bryant Society members and the indelible impact they make on our programs.
