
Alabama Volleyball Drops Three-Set Decision to LSU Sunday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama volleyball fell in three sets Sunday afternoon to LSU in Tuscaloosa.
Alabama (12-15, 4-12 SEC) dropped the three-set decision to LSU (15-11, 9-7 SEC) by set scores of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-15. For the second-straight match, senior Hayley McSparin led the Crimson Tide offense with nine kills, adding a pair of solo blocks on defense. Junior Meghan Neelon paced the offense with 15 assists and junior Kaylee Thomas led the defense with nine digs.

"It's about our mental mindset. We have to make decisions that will help the team. We need to believe and understand that our training is going to carry over into the matches. Right now, we've been challenged but when other teams make adjustments and we have to be able to make adjustments to counter that."

SET-BY-SET
- Set One (LSU 25, Alabama 21): LSU jumped ahead to an early 4-1 lead before Alabama responded with five straight points to pull ahead 6-4. The Tigers scored back-to-back to tie it at 6-6 and then used a 9-3 run to extend their lead to 15-9 at the media timeout. Later trailing 19-10, the Tide cut into the deficit with a 7-2 run before LSU took a timeout ahead 21-17. Alabama took its second timeout after two points from each team made it 23-19 and the two teams would score a pair of points each for the final tally of 25-21.
- Set Two (LSU 25, Alabama 16): Tied early at 3-3, LSU scored back-to-back points to lead by two and maintained the lead until the media timeout at 15-13. Alabama took a team timeout soon after trailing 18-15 but the Tigers closed out the frame with a 7-1 run to win, 25-16.
- Set Three (LSU 25, Alabama 15): LSU carried its momentum into the third, moving ahead 5-1 and Alabama called an early timeout. Later trailing 8-2, the Tide cut the deficit in half with a 4-1 run and it remained a three-point game until a Tiger block pushed the visitors ahead 12-8 and Alabama took its final timeout. LSU continued to charge ahead for the remainder of the frame, taking a double-digit lead at 22-12 and eventually winning the set by the same margin, 25-15, to complete the sweep.
