Alabama Picks Up Third Straight Win with 74-62 Road Victory Against South Alabama

Mobile native Cierra Johnson led the way with 16 points and eight rebounds off the bench
MOBILE, Ala. – The Alabama women's basketball team picked up its third consecutive win after cruising past South Alabama 74-62 on the road on Thursday night inside the Mitchell Center in Mobile, Ala. With its second-straight road victory the Crimson Tide moves to 3-1 on the year, while the Jaguars drop to 1-4.
Senior Cierra Johnson showed out in her hometown, putting up a team-high 16 points to go along with eight rebounds. Redshirt junior point guard Jordan Lewis added 11 points and three steals, while junior Jasmine Walker came one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds in the victory. 11 different players scored for the Tide.

- "We wanted to come out and be aggressive on both sides of the ball," said head coach Kristy Curry. "I thought we were phenomenal on the offensive glass, when you rebound and you defend on the road you give yourself a chance. I loved our energy and effort tonight."
Quarter-by-Quarter
- Half way through the first quarter the two teams were knotted up at 8-8 before the Tide closed the quarter with a 15-3 run to take the 23-11 advantage.
- The two teams battled back-and-forth before Alabama went on another run, this time a 10-0 run put the score at 37-19 with 3:19 to go in the half. USA cut its deficit to 41-30 at halftime.
- The Jags trimmed the UA lead to 46-39 when the Tide defense took over and did not allowed a basket for the final six minutes of the quarter. Alabama outscored South Alabama 11-1 to finish the quarter and take the 57-40 lead into the fourth.
- Alabama led by as many as 25 after senior Ashley Knight scored back-to-back layups to put UA up 68-43 with 6:04 to go. USA cut into the lead again, however, the Tide held on for the 12-point victory.

Player Spotlight
- Johnson shot an efficient 6-of-10 from the floor, including going a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line. For the season, Johnson is averaging 13.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.8 steals per contest.
- After Walker's performance, she leads the team with 7.3 rebounds per game and leads the squad with seven three-point makes for the season. The junior from Montgomery is also averaging 9.8 points.
- Knight had her best outing of the season with eight points, six rebounds and four blocks. Knight is now only 11 blocks away from the most career blocks in Alabama history.
Stats of the Game
- The Tide outrebounded the Jags 49-29 in the game, including 22-8 on the offensive glass. Alabama is outrebounding its opponents on the offensive glass, 78-31 through four games.
- The Crimson Tide's bench dominated once again, outscoring the Jags' bench 40-1.
- UA held USA's leading scorer Antoinette Lewis without of field goal after she was averaging 17 points and 14 rebounds entering Thursday's contest.
