Alabama Swimming and Diving Dives Back into Action at the Georgia Tech Invitational

The Crimson Tide is taking a full contingent to the three-day meet on the Georgia Tech campus in Atlanta
ATLANTA, Ga. – The Alabama swimming and diving teams dive back into action this weekend, traveling to Atlanta, Ga., for the Georgia Tech Invitational.
The three-day meet starts Friday, Nov. 22 and will feature prelims and finals each day. It is the Crimson Tide's first competition since the first week of October, when the Tide men faced Georgia, while the women took on the Bulldogs as well as Vanderbilt.
In addition to the homestanding Yellow Jackets, the Tide men will face Southeastern Conference foes Florida and South Carolina, as well as Florida State, North Carolina, Utah and East Carolina, while the women will take on Florida and South Carolina from the SEC, along with UNC, FSU, Utah, Georgia Southern and East Carolina.
Head Coach Coley Stickels Says
"It's been more than a month since our last meet and we're definitely ready get out there and compete against someone else. This is a checkpoint meet for us, one that will give us a good picture of where we are individually and as team as we gear up for final exams and our upcoming training camps."
At the Georgia Tech Invitational
- Prelims will get underway at 9 a.m. CT each day, while finals are slated for a 5:30 p.m. start.
- This year's meet opens Friday with the 200 freestyle relay, 500 freestyle, 200 individual medley, 50 freestyle and the 400 medley relay as well as the women's 3-meter and the men's 1-meter springboard diving events
- Kensey McMahon broke the school 1,650 and 1,000 freestyle records at last year Georgia Tech Invitational, becoming the first UA woman under 16 minutes in the mile along the way
Leading the Nation
- Senior Zane Waddell, an SEC, NCAA, World University Games and World Championships gold medalist, is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the 50 backstroke after posting a 21.76 on Oct. 4 against Georgia
- Sophomore Kensey McMahon, an All-American and member of the United States National Team, is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the 1,000 freestyle after stopping the clock with a 9:42.96 against Georgia on Oct. 4
- McMahon's time came nearly a month ahead of any other in the top-five to this point in the season and is more than second faster than second place
- Liam Bell, a member of the U.S. Junior National Team, is one of just two freshmen to be ranked in the top-25 of the 100 breaststroke this season after touching the wall with a 54.57 on Oct. 4 against Georgia
