The Tide earns its second consecutive SEC conference win
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama soccer team came out victorious against the Mississippi State Bulldogs in overtime, 3-2. This is the second consecutive overtime win against an SEC opponent for the Tide.
The Crimson Tide got on the board early in the 7th minute with a goal by freshman Reyna Reyes. Reyes found the back of the net following through from a shot by sophomore Abby Bivens. Alabama later increased their lead to two in the 18th minute with Brynn Martin scoring her third goal of the season, assisted by junior Casey Wertz and freshman Serena Pham. However, the Bulldogs responded within the last seconds of the first half with a goal by Miranda Carrasco, bringing the score to 2-1.
With an Alabama own goal in the 73rd minute, Mississippi State tied the game.
Redshirt sophomore Gabby Duca secured the win in the 95th minute launching a shot from inside the box, with help by Wertz.
From Head Coach Wes Hart
- "We've certainly got to celebrate the win and enjoy it. Tomorrow we'll get back after it and shift the focus to Texas A&M. From a confidence standpoint, it's huge. Any win in the conference is huge – no matter who you're playing, where you're playing, whether it's home or on the road, whether it's the top team in the league or the bottom team in the league. Three points is three points."
