
Crimson Tide in the NFL Spotlight: Week 8

Former Alabama players continue to excel on both sides of the football
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The eighth week of the 2019 season in the National Football League wrapped up on Monday. Below is a look at some of the highlights from former Crimson Tide players currently in the NFL.
Former Alabama defenders put together a big week, highlighted by Minkah Fitzpatrick's two-interception performance to help lead the Pittsburgh Steelers to a 27-14 victory over his former team, the Miami Dolphins. Fitzpatrick added two tackles to his line by night's end. Also playing a big role in his team's defensive performance was Patriots linebacker Dont'a Hightower. The veteran linebacker recorded three tackles and returned a fumble for a touchdown as New England downed the Cleveland Browns, 27-13.
Washington defensive lineman Jonathan Allen contributed a big defensive performance, collecting seven tackles and a sack in the Redskins' matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. His teammate, Landon Collins, also posted big numbers from his spot in the Washington secondary. Collins recorded 11 total tackles on the day to move him into sixth on the league's total tackles list through eight weeks.
Rounding out the impressive week from Tide defenders were Rashaan Evans and Dalvin Tomlinson. Evans recorded 12 total tackles for the Tennessee Titans. The big day added to the second-year linebacker's team-high total for tackles with 67, a number that moved him into the NFL's top 10 for total tackles on the season. Tomlinson contributed big numbers along the defensive front for the Giants. He recorded three tackles, two of which went for a loss, to go with a sack and a quarterback hurry in New York's matchup with the Detroit Lions.
On the offensive side of the ball, wide receiver Julio Jones provided a solid performance on Sunday for the Atlanta Falcons. Jones hauled in 10 catches for 152 yards which moved him into third in the NFL for receiving yards on the year with 712. Joining Jones with a standout effort on offense was running back Derrick Henry. The former Heisman Trophy winner rushed 16 times for 75 yards as the Tennessee Titans beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 27-23.
