
Alabama Men’s Golf Closes Fall Season at Cypress Point Classic

The Crimson Tide will be one of eight teams to compete at event which will be played at the prestigious Cypress Point Club
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's golf team will close the fall season at the Cypress Point Classic, which will be played on the prestigious Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach, Calif. The Crimson Tide will be one of eight teams that will compete in the Ryder Cup-style tournament that will feature two rounds of head-to-head competition on Monday, followed by singles matches on Tuesday.
Cypress Point is widely considered as one of the most renowned golf courses in the country. The par 72, 6,509-yard Alister Mackenzie Course in Pebble Beach is ranked among the best layouts in the world. In addition to the Crimson Tide, the rest of the field includes host Stanford, California, UCLA, USC, Duke, Illinois and Georgia Tech.
Tournament Format
- The eight teams will be split in four head-to-head contests consisting of three rounds of match play and six golfers per team
- The competing squads will play a fourball match followed by a round of foursomes on Monday, before concluding play with single matches on Tuesday
- Teams will be awarded one point for each match won, and teams with the highest point total at the end of each round will advance to the winner's bracket
About Alabama
- The Crimson Tide's six players include juniors Wilson Furr and Davis Shore, sophomores Prescott Butler and Frankie Capan III and freshmen Simms Abney and Thomas Ponder
- Pairings for Monday include Furr and Abney, Shore and Butler and Capan and Ponder
- This marks the second time that Alabama has competed at the Cypress Point Classic, as the Tide finished with a 1-2 record in the 2016 event
The tournament will not feature live scoring but a recap will be provided at the end of each day.
