Alabama Men’s Basketball Season Begins with Charity Exhibition Contest Against Georgia Tech

The Crimson Tide and Yellow Jackets square off on Sunday afternoon with all net proceeds going to the American Red Cross Hurricane Dorian Relief Fund
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama will open the 2019-20 men's basketball season when it hosts Georgia Tech in a charity exhibition contest on Sunday at noon CT inside Coleman Coliseum. All net proceeds from the contest will be donated to the American Red Cross Hurricane Dorian Relief Fund.
The two former Southeastern Conference rivals will square off for against one another for the first time since Jan. 3, 2012 when the Tide captured a 73-48 victory. In all, Alabama leads the all-time series 41-28 including a 23-6 edge in 29 games played in Tuscaloosa, including a5-0 record inside Coleman Coliseum.

- The contest will be the first of two basketball contests on the day as the Alabama women's basketball team will close the doubleheader when it hosts Auburn-Montgomery at 2:30 p.m.
THE BROADCAST
- Sunday's game will not be televised
- Fans can listen to the live broadcast through the Crimson Tide Sports Network, with Roger Hoover (play-by-play) and Bryan Passink (analyst) on the call. The pregame show will begin one hour before tipoff
NOTES YOU NEED TO KNOW
- The Tide finished with an overall record of 18-16 during the 2018-19 season, including an 8-10 mark in Southeastern Conference play. The Yellow Jackets closed the year at 14-18 overall and 6-12 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
- Head coach Nate Oats begins his tenure at the helm of the Alabama program this season. He comes to Alabama after spending the last four seasons at the University at Buffalo. While there, he led the Bulls to a 96-43 (.691) record, three MAC Tournament Championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances, including reaching the round of 32 in each of the last two seasons.
- This year's Crimson Tide squad welcomes back three starters and seven letterwinners from last season's team. Also returning is Javian Davis-Fleming, who redshirted the 2018-19 season.
- Sophomore Kira Lewis Jr. and juniors John Petty Jr. and Herbert Jones highlight the returning letterwinners. The trio are the top returning scorers, led by Lewis who topped last season's team with 13.5 points per contest. Petty also averaged in double figures with 10.2 ppg, while Jones collected 6.4 ppg.
