The Tide earns its fourth conference win in its last regular season road test
COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Alabama soccer team came out on top against the Mizzou Tigers, 2-1, at the Audrey J. Walton Stadium, earning their fourth conference win.
The Crimson Tide started the match with a strong and early start, earning the lead within the first two minutes. Freshman Carlee Giammona scored her second goal of the season just under the two-minute mark with an assist by junior Chloe Maize. However, the Mizzou Tigers found the equalizer six minutes later with a successful penalty kick from Julissa Cisneros. Both teams fought aggressively throughout the first 45 minutes earning a combined 15 fouls, but the squads entered halftime at a stalemate.
Sophomore forward Riley Mattingly secured the game-winner in the 63rd minute with a penalty goal.
From Head Coach Wes Hart
"What a great result. It was not the most attractive game we've played, but credit to Mizzou for making it difficult on us. This is a huge win for us in our quest for a first round bye in Orange Beach and a bid to the NCAA Tournament."
Behind the Win
- The Tide outshot the Tigers, 11-10 with 3 shots on goal. Mattingly lead the team with four shots, followed by Giammona with three.
- Mattingly's game-winning goal marks her fifth of the season. She now leads the Tide in goals, surpassing junior Casey Wertz who sits at four.
