Crimson Tide turning attention to matchup with Texas A&M on Oct. 12
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama Crimson Tide returned to the field on Tuesday for a two-hour practice at Thomas-Drew Practice Fields, completing its first workout during the bye week.
Alabama is enjoying its first break in play this weekend following a 59-31 victory over Ole Miss last Saturday. Alabama is now preparing for its matchup with Texas A&M. The Tide and Aggies will square off at Kyle Field in College Station, Texas, in a 2:30 p.m. CT kickoff on Oct. 12. Brad Nessler and Gary Danielson will be in the booth for CBS and Jamie Erdahl will be working the sidelines.
Alabama and Texas A&M will meet for the 12th time in a series that dates back to 1942. The Crimson Tide leads the all-time series, 9-2, including a 4-0 record in College Station. Alabama won last year's meeting, 45-23, at Bryant-Denny Stadium and is 6-1 against the Aggies since Texas A&M joined the Southeastern Conference in 2012.
Earlier in the day, wide receiver DeVonta Smith was named the Maxwell Award Player of the Week. The junior receiver set an Alabama single-game receiving records with 274 yards and five touchdowns in the Crimson Tide's victory over Ole Miss. Smith hauled in a career-best 11 passes on the day to average 24.9 yards per catch, the second-best mark in a single game by a wide receiver at UA with at least eight catches. His five touchdowns tied the SEC single-game record, and he became the sixth player in SEC history to score at least two touchdowns and go over 200 yards in a game, which he accomplished in the first half alone.
Junior quarterback Tua Tagovailoa was selected as the Davey O'Brien Foundation's Quarterback of the Week for the second time in the past three weeks. Tagovailoa totaled seven touchdowns (six passing, one rushing) and completed 26-for-36 passes for 418 yards on Saturday. The six touchdowns through the air and seven total touchdowns established new Crimson Tide records. He also broke the Alabama career record for touchdowns responsible for during the contest.
