California Bound!
Congratulations to our football team on earning a spot in its fourth-consecutive College Football Playoff National Championship Game with a 45-34 victory over Oklahoma last Saturday. It'll be a familiar foe in the title game as we take on the undefeated Clemson Tigers Monday in Santa Clara, California at Levi's Stadium. Tickets are still on sale and can be purchased by calling the Alabama Ticket Office at 205-348-BAMA (2262).
Conference Season on Deck for Basketball
Our men's and women's basketball teams begin Southeastern Conference play this week, both of which get underway at home. The women's team will take on Florida tonight at 7 p.m., while the men play host to Kentucky on Saturday with the game tipping at 12 p.m. If you are not heading out to California please come and support our hoops teams!
Gymnastics Leaps into New Season Friday
Our gymnasts get the 2019 season started Friday with a rare quad meet in Coleman Coliseum. Coach Dana Duckworth is very excited about this year's team, which opens with Southeast Missouri State, Northern Illinois and Temple. The competition begins at 7:30 p.m., but we encourage everyone to be in their seats by 7:15 p.m. so you won't miss a second of the excitement.
Among the National Leaders in Football Graduates
Twenty-two student-athletes on our football roster have now earned their Alabama degree, a total that ranks No. 1 in the Southeastern Conference and is third among teams that earned a bowl bid this season. In fact, we've had 22 or more graduates on our roster every time we've appeared in the CFP national championship. Our success on the field and in the classroom has been nothing short of spectacular and point of great Tide pride.
Tide Well-Represented on USA Softball Junior Women's National Training Team
Montana Fouts and Skylar Wallace, two of our current freshmen, and signee Lexi Kilfoyl are among the 20 athletes that were selected to the 2019 Junior Women's National Training Team. They will compete at various tournaments and invitational events over the summer before the final roster of 17 is made for the U-19 Women's Softball World Cup. Well done, ladies!
Thank You, Donors!
The College Football Playoff Participants Giving Challenge concluded on Saturday, December 29 with Crimson Tide Foundation donors making 448 gifts toward scholarships for our student-athletes during the challenge. Thank you to each Alabama fan, supporter, coach and staff member who made a contribution. These donations are investments in the education of our student-athletes, and they will have an incredible impact. If you weren't able to make your gift during the challenge, you can donate online any time at crimsontidefoundation.org.
University Spotlight
Congratulations to Dr. David Dixon, the Robert Ramsay Professor of Chemistry, on earning the 2018 Blackmon-Moody Outstanding Professor Award. The award, one of the most prestigious given out by The University of Alabama, is based on a specific accomplishment that is innovative, creative, useful or captures the imagination.
#RollTideFriday
We're headed to Europe for our #RollTideFriday features this week. First, we have longtime Tide supporter Farid Rafiee outside of Sweet Home Alabama all the way in Zermatt, Switzerland, and secondly, Jimmy Buford shares his photo outside of Orebro Castle in Orebro, Sweden.
