Crimson Tide seniors Vincent Kiprop and Gilbert Kigen both ran sub eight-minute marks in their first 3,000-meter races of the indoor season to rank in the top-25 nationally
BOSTON – The Alabama track and field distance duo of seniors Vincent Kiprop and Gilbert Kigen ran the 3,000-meter race at the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic this weekend, posting times that rank them both in the top-25 nationally this season.
"We're happy with the way that Vincent and Gilbert ran this weekend," UA head coach Dan Waters said. "They both had a tough fall, dealing with injuries, and so for them to come out in their first race and run the way they did is very encouraging."
Both men broke the eight-minute mark in Boston, with Kiprop running a 7:59.40 to take fourth place, while Kigen was a step behind at 7:59.61, good for fifth. Kigen's time was just a half-second off his career-best time, while Kiprop came within three-and-a-half seconds of his personal best.
Kiprop comes out of the weekend ranked 22nd nationally, while Kigen is 23rd.
Alabama returns to action this weekend at the Carolina Challenge in Columbia, S.C., February 1-2.
