Alabama Athletics’ DRIVE for Success Hosts Tim Elmore Seminar to Start Semester

Elmore held two days of seminars for the Crimson Tide’s student-athletes, coaches and staff
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama Athletics' DRIVE for Success program kicked off the new year by spending a few days with world-renowned leadership expert Dr. Tim Elmore.
The president and founder of Growing Leaders, Elmore is a best-selling author and international speaker on Generation Y and Generation Z who uses his knowledge to equip educators, coaches, leaders and parents to impart practical life and leadership skills to young adults that will help them navigate through life.
The student-athletes in the Crimson Tide's Emerging Tide Leaders Academy took part in a retreat that included a pair of dynamic seminars led by Elmore. The first focused on the "who before what", delving into the role identity plays in a student-athlete's health, success and leadership.
The second seminar focused on contagious leadership, discussing the concept that effective leaders naturally influence their teammates by creating a culture that leads to success.
"From the retreat, 'Roots and Fruits' and 'Thermometer vs Thermostat' stuck in my head," sophomore swimmer Sam DiSette said. "These concepts are extremely necessary in setting a good core system and setting the temperature of the team by adding positive energy and attitude. By emphasizing these principles, I hope I can help my team grow stronger and be contagious."
Elmore also sat down with Alabama coaches and staff to share what he has researched about today's student-athletes and what it means to be part of "Generation Z." He also started a dialog on how best to help this latest generation reach its full potential.
"It was such an amazing experience to have Tim Elmore back on campus," UA head gymnastics coach Dana Duckworth said. "He is always on point and shows us so many ways to lead more effectively. Our student-athletes benefit greatly from their time with Tim, and for my staff and I, the information he provided has already opened up some great conversations as we continue to learn and grow as coaches."
Elmore's seminars are just part of Alabama Athletics' DRIVE for Success Career and Leadership Development program's ongoing efforts to provide a strong foundation for the Crimson Tide's student-athletes. Highlighted through the DRIVE acronym the program's values are Dedication, Responsibility, Influence, Vision, and Excellence. Now in its fifth year, DRIVE for Success' mission is to actively support professional and leadership growth of current and former Crimson Tide student-athletes through practical educational workshops, professional events, leadership programs and various opportunities for growth.Â
