TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Ranked No. 7 and No. 13, respectively, in the preseason coaches association rankings, the Alabama men's and women's teams open the 2019 indoor track & field season Friday at the UAB Blazer Invitational at the Birmingham CrossPlex. It will mark the second year in a row that the Crimson Tide has opened the indoor portion of its schedule with the Blazer Invitational.
"We're excited to get this season started and to see where we are after our preseason preparation," UA head coach Dan Waters said. "For our newcomers, this will be their first opportunity to compete for the Crimson Tide and wear Alabama on their chest, which is always special. For our veterans, I'm looking forward to see what kind of progress they've made since last season."
A total of 24 men and 29 women are slated to compete this weekend. In addition to individual events, the Tide is also entered in the men's and women's 4x400-meter and distance medley relays at Friday's meet. Among those competing this weekend are 13 freshmen slated to make their Crimson Tide indoor debut.
The meet gets started at 9 a.m. CT with the throwing events, with the field events to follow at 10 a.m. and again at 3 p.m. The running events get started at 10:45 a.m. The final event is the men's and women's 4x400-meter relay, which is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start.
