No. 2 Alabama Opens 2018-19 Men’s Golf Season at Carpet Capital Collegiate

Crimson Tide set to compete at three-day, 54-hole event this weekend
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 2-ranked Alabama men's golf team opens the 2018-19 season on Friday when it begins play at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Dalton, Ga. This year's tournament will once again be played at the par 72, 7,178-yard Farm Golf Club.
The tournament is slated for 54 holes in three days (Friday through Sunday) and boasts another strong field this year. In addition to the second-ranked Crimson Tide, the 2018 Carpet Capital features 15 teams, six teams of which are ranked in the Preseason Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll, while an additional three squads are receiving votes to be ranked.
The Crimson Tide returns three starters off last year's team that finished runners-up at the 2018 NCAA Men's Golf Championships. Last season's Alabama squad posted four first-place finishes throughout the season, including when it tied for first at the 2017 Carpet Capital.
Alabama will be led by senior Davis Riley, who is coming off a sensational summer in which he reached the finals of the prestigious Western Amateur and the quarterfinals of the U.S. Amateur last month. He ended last season ranked No. 22 in the nation on his way to earning third team All-America honors – the second time in three years he has earned the honor (earned honorable mention All-America as a freshman).
Sophomores Davis Shore and Wilson Furr were among the starting five from last year's run at the NCAA Championships and will be in the lineup this weekend. Rounding out the starting five will be junior Josh Sedeno and freshman Frankie Capan III. In addition, freshman Prescot Butler will compete as an individual.
Alabama has topped the leaderboard at the Carpet Capital Collegiate four times (2006, 2007, 2010 and 2018), while former standout Justin Thomas won individual medalist honors in 2011. The Tide also holds the 18-hole course records (276 in 2006).
Alabama is set to tee off Hole No. 1 at 8:30 a.m. CT (9:30 a.m. ET) and will be paired with Auburn and Georgia Tech.
