
Alabama Opens Fall Season at Rice Invitational in Houston

Doubles play will start on Friday at 9 a.m. followed by singles at 10 a.m.
HOUSTON – The Alabama women's tennis team kicks off its fall season this weekend at the Rice Invitational in Houston, Texas. The three-day tournament begins on Friday, Sept. 20 at 9 a.m. CT and runs through Sunday, Sept. 22.
The Crimson Tide has seven individual players and three doubles pairs competing in the event this weekend. No. 70 Andie Daniell begins her senior campaign playing against Tamuna Kutubidze (North Texas), while sophomore Moka Ito starts her Alabama career against Michaela Haet (Rice) in her first match with the Tide.
Five Alabama juniors will also be playing in singles, with Alba Cortina Pou facing Amelie Boy (South Florida), Luca Fabian matching up against Priya Niezgoda (Rice), Jacqueline Pelletier competing against Laura Cabrera (UTSA), junior Kimberley Gintrand playing versus Alex Heczey (North Texas) and junior Ann Selim taking on Charoline Erlnadsson (McNeese State).
In doubles, Daniell/Ito will play Zivkovic/De La Luz Montalvo (Sam Houston State), Cortina Pou/Fabian will compete against Pieroni/Monarrez-Yesaki (SMU), while Gintrand/Pelletier are set to play Natal/Takeuchi (UT Arlington).
Doubles competition begins tomorrow at 9 a.m. with singles to follow at 10 a.m. Times are subject to change due to weather. Live video of the event is available for some matches, the court assignments will be determined by the next scheduled match.
