Alabama’s Lauren Stephenson and Kristen Gillman Post a Pair of Wins on Day 2 of 2018 Curtis Cup

United States leads Great Britain & Ireland, 9-3, heading into Sunday’s individual match play
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama junior Lauren Stephenson and sophomore Kristen Gillman had their hand in a pair of victories Saturday as the United States moved out to a 9-3 lead on Great Britain & Ireland on Day 2 of the 2018 Curtis Cup at Quaker Ridge Golf Club in Scarsdale, N.Y.
Gillman and USA teammate Jennifer Kupcho of Wake Forest downed Olivia Mehaffey and Sophie Lamb, 3-and-2, in the morning Four-Ball competition as part of a 3-0 USA sweep of GB&I.
Stephenson, who was one of two United States golfers who did not participate in the morning round, teamed up with Gillman to defeat Annabell Fuller and India Clyburn, 6-and-5, as the U.S. finished 2-1 in the afternoon Foursome matches for the 9-3 advantage heading into Sunday's final day of competition.
The United States needs a win and one halved match among the eight Singles matches on Sunday to retake the Curtis Cup with 10.5 points. As the defending champion, Great Britain & Ireland would need seven points for 10 total points to retain it.
First held in 1932, the Curtis Cup is a biennial women's amateur golf competition pitting a team from the United States against a team from Great Britain and Ireland. Teams are awarded one point for each victory and a half-point for a halved match.
FS1 will air coverage of Sunday's Singles matches at noon CT. Stephenson will tee off at 1:40 p.m. CT and will face Great Britain & Ireland's Shannon McWilliam. Gillman will follow Stephenson at 1:50 p.m. CT and will play Annabell Fuller.
