Alabama’s Lauren Stephenson Named to WGCA Player of the Year Watch List

Junior one of six golfers in contention for national player of the year honors
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama junior Lauren Stephenson is among six golfers named to the 2017-18 PING WGCA Division I Player of the Year Award Watch List, the Women's Golf Coaches Association announced Wednesday.
A first-team All-Southeastern Conference honoree this season, Stephenson leads the Tide in scoring average at 69.48 with 10 top-10 finishes, including eight in the top-three and two tournament victories. The Lexington, S.C., native also tops the team in rounds in the 60s with 18 and rounds at par or lower with 24 in 29 rounds played in 2017-18. Stephenson enters this week's NCAA Women's Golf Championships ranked No. 6 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.
Joining Stephenson on the watch list are Maria Fassi of Arkansas, Andrea Lee of Stanford, Leona Maguire of Duke and Lilia Vu and Patty Tavatanakit of UCLA.
The winner of the PING Player of the Year Award will be announced following the conclusion of medalist play at the NCAA Championships. The award is presented annually by the WGCA to the best player in Division I women's golf.
