Alba Cortina-Pou cruises past Tatum Rice in singles, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Alabama women's tennis team dropped a tough road match at Arkansas, 4-1, Friday night at the George M. Billingsley Tennis Center.

After claiming the doubles point, the Razorbacks won singles matches at No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 to clinch the match.

In doubles, No. 51 Oparenovic/Rice defeated junior Andie Daniell and senior Smith Hinton, 6-2, at No. 1. After a short rain delay moved the contest indoors, the sophomore duo of Ann Selim and Alba Cortina-Pou took care of Pairone/Jurasic, 6-2, at No. 2, but soon thereafter, the Razorbacks answered back with a win at No. 3, 6-2, for the 1-0 lead.

In singles, Alabama evened the score at one apiece thanks to Cortina-Pou cruising past Tatum Rice, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5. However, the Razorbacks regained its lead, winning back-to-back matches at No. 1 and No. 3. Arkansas' 52^nd-ranked singles player Giulia Pairone topped No. 91 Daniell, 6-1, 6-3, on court one, while Mia Jurasic defeated sophomore Jacqueline Pelletier, 6-3, 6-4, on court three.

Then at No. 4, Selim took the first set, 6-2, but Arkansas' Natsuho Arakawa rallied back in set two, 6-2, and won the final set, 6-4, to secure the match.

Up next, Alabama will wrap up its road slate at Missouri on Sunday at noon CT.
