Alabama Track & Field Wraps Up Regular Season at LSU Invitational Saturday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama men's and women's track & field teams will finish regular season competition this weekend with a trip to Baton Rouge, La., for the LSU Invitational on Saturday. The Crimson Tide will enter 26 men and 26 women in 29 individual events, as well as the men's and women's 4x100- and 4x400-meter relay teams.
Alabama in USTFCCCA Rankings
The Alabama men's track & field team moved up five spots to No. 3, while the Crimson Tide women checks in at No. 23 in the latest U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) outdoor rankings, released April 23.
Kiprop, Kigen and Chelanga Post Three of UA's Fastest 5,000-Meter Times
Alabama distance runners Vincent Kiprop, Gilbert Kigen and Alfred Chelanga raced into the Alabama record books for the second time this season with their performances in the 5,000 meters at Stanford's Cardinal Classic on April 20. Kiprop (13:37.92), Kigen (13:40.99) and Chelanga (13:42.11) posted times that rank 2-3-4, respectively, in school history. The trio previously entered the UA record book together in an earlier visit to Palo Alto for the Stanford Invitational on March 30 when they posted three of the five fastest 10,000-meter times ever run at Alabama.

"This weekend will be a good final test for us prior to the SEC Championships. We've had some solid performances at each meet this season but now it's time to focus and put those performances together in one meet as we prepare to move into the championship portion of our schedule."
Next Meet
The Crimson Tide will be off until the 2018 SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will take place May 11-13, in Knoxville, Tenn.
