The Longhorn Invitational will be the Crimson Tide's last regatta of the season before the Big 12 Conference Championships, May 12-13
AUSTIN, Texas – Alabama rowing hits the road again this weekend, traveling to Austin, Texas for the Longhorn Invitational in what will be the Tide's last regatta of the season before the Big 12 Conference Championships.
Teams from across the country will converge in Austin including No. 3 Texas, No. 7 Iowa, No. 9 Virginia, No. 18 Oklahoma, Central Florida, Miami (Fla.) and Oregon State.
"This weekend in Austin, we'll probably face the deepest, toughest competition, overall, we've seen all year," UA head coach Larry Davis said.
The Tide's Second Varsity 4+ crew (8 a.m. CT) will kick things off against Iowa, Virginia and Texas. Alabama's 1V8+ (8:30 a.m. CT) and 2V8+ (8:50 a.m. CT) will then square off against the Hawkeyes, Cavaliers and the Knights, followed by the Tide's 1V4+ crew (9:10 a.m. CT) facing the same opponents. Alabama will wrap up Session 1 with the 3V8+ (9:20 a.m. CT) facing UCF, Texas and Oregon State and the Tide's Novice 8+ crew (9:30 a.m. CT) battling Texas, Iowa and Miami.
For the NCAA crews (1V8+/2V8+ and 1V4+), the top two teams from each group will progress to the A finals for Session 2, followed by the next two competing in the B finals. For the 2V4+ and Novice 8+/3V8+, the winner of each heat plus the next two fastest times will move to the A finals. The remaining teams will compete in the B finals.
"We'll have to be at our best to be successful," Davis said. "We're going to have to go out and really execute both in the morning and afternoon."
The Tide will be back in action in two weeks, traveling to Oak Ridge, Tenn., for the Big 12 Conference Championships, May 12-13.
