Shore finished runner-up at the Mason Rudolph Championship
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama men's golfer Davis Shore has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon. It marks the first SEC weekly honor for Shore and the second time this year that a Crimson Tide men's golfer has claimed the weekly award from the league (Lee Hodges was named the Golfer of the Week for the week of March 21).
Shore led the way for the Alabama men's golf team last weekend with a runner-up finish at the 2018 Mason Rudolph Championship. Shore recorded his best finish of the season, and his second top-10 result, to lead the Crimson Tide to a second-place finish in the event that featured six teams ranked among the top-50 in the nation.
The Knoxville, Tenn., native ended the 54-hole tournament with a 2-under par 211 (72-67-72), on the par 71, 7,100-yard Traditions Golf Club South Course layout. Shore matched his career-best round when he carded a 4-under par 67 in the second round, sandwiched between a pair of 1-over par 72s. He also led the entire field in par 4 scoring at 4.04 (+1) and tied for third in par 3 scoring at 3.00 (E). As a result, Shore finished ahead of nine golfers ranked in Golfstat.com's top-100 individual rankings, including going 4-0 mark against top-20 foes.
It is the first Freshman of the Week honor for the Crimson Tide since Josh Sedeno claimed the award for the week of April 5, 2017.
Alabama will return to action on April 25-30 when it travels to St. Simons Island, Ga., to compete at the SEC Championships.
