Alexa Guarachi and Erin Routliffe win the doubles main draw in Pelham, Ala.
PELHAM, Ala. – Alabama women's tennis alumni Erin Routliffe and Alexa Guarachi won the Legacy Credit Union Women's $25K Pro Tennis Classic doubles title in Pelham Friday night. The duo defeated Maria Mateas (USA) and Maria Jose Portillo Ramirez (Mexico), 6-1, 6-2, en route to clinching the title.
In the first round, the former Crimson Tide standouts defeated USA's Rasheeda McAdoo and Jada Robinson, 6-3, 6-2, and later topped the pairing of Kerrie Cartwright (Bahamas) and Kariann Pierre-Louis (USA), 6-1, 7-6(2) in the quarterfinals. In the semifinal match, the tandem edged Olga Govortsova (Belarus) and Sofia Shapatava (Georgia) in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 10-6, before moving on to the final match where they bested the Mexican-American team in straight sets.
During their time at Alabama, Guarachi and Routliffe both earned multiple All-American and All-SEC honors. One of the most successful doubles players in Alabama history, Routliffe won back-to-back NCAA Doubles Championships (2014 and 2015) and finished as the runner-up in last year's doubles championship match. Routliffe was also a part of the Crimson Tide's first SEC Championship squad in 2014. Guarachi ended her career at the Capstone with 109 victories in singles, which is the most singles wins ever recorded by a player in Alabama history, and wrapped up her doubles campaign with teammate Courtney McLane with 69 wins, which tops the Tide's all-time doubles list.
