The No. 9 seeded Crimson Tide set for rematch against eighth-seed Texas A&M on Thursday at noon CT on SEC Network
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama and Texas A&M will meet for the second time in as many games when the teams square off on Thursday in the second round of the 2018 SEC Tournament. This marks the first time since 2010-11 that the Tide will open the SEC Tournament with the same team it played in the final regular season contest. That year, Alabama defeated Georgia, 65-57, on March 5, 2011 in the regular season finale, then captured a 65-59 victory in overtime in the first contest of the 2011 SEC Tournament on March 11.
Last season, Alabama reached the 2017 SEC Tournament semifinals after defeating Mississippi State, 74-55, in the second round, followed by a 64-53 victory over South Carolina in the quarterfinals. In doing so, the Tide won two games in the same league tournament for the first time since 2002 and reached the semifinals for the first time since 2013. Head coach Avery Johnson has a record of 3-2 in SEC Tournament play.
Most recently, Alabama dropped its fifth consecutive contest – its longest losing streak since the 2003-04 season – when it fell on the road at Texas A&M, 68-66, on Saturday afternoon in College Station, Texas. It marked the third game in the current five-game skid that the Tide lost by 10 or fewer points, while four of the five of its opponents have been to teams ranked in the top-30 of the ESPN.com RPI.
Freshman Collin Sexton led the Crimson Tide with 23 points to go along with a season-best seven assists, while junior Donta Hall collected 12 points and six rebounds. In addition, freshman John Petty added seven points and a season-high eight rebounds in the contest that featured 11 ties and 15 lead changes.
Thursday's game will mark the first time since the 2010-11 season that Alabama will face the same team in the SEC Tournament that it ended the regular season against. That year, the Crimson Tide defeated Georgia, 65-57, on March 5, and followed that with a 65-59 overtime victory against the Bulldogs in its first game of the 2011 conference tournament.

It's the first time in program history the Tide has won five games over AP top-25 teams in a single season, bettering the four ranked victories accomplished four other seasons (1982-83, 1986-87, 2001-02, 2015-16), Alabama owns wins over then-No. 5 Texas A&M, then-No. 17 Auburn, then-No. 12 Oklahoma, then-No. 23 Florida and then-No. 15 Tennessee this season. • Since Avery Johnson's arrival in Tuscaloosa, Alabama owns a record of 10-9 when facing an AP Top-25 team. Prior to his arrival, the Tide dropped 21 consecutive games to nationally-ranked opponents.
• The NCAA selection committee is no longer using only RPI top 50, top 100, 200 and 201 and above as dividing categories. Instead, the new terminology will be quadrants 1, 2, 3 and 4 – something the helps bolster the Tide's 2017-18 tournament resume. Quadrant 1 RPI wins include home 1-30; neutral 1-50; away 1-75. Quadrant 2 include home 31-75; neutral 51-100; away 76-135. Entering the Southeastern Conference tournament, only 15 other teams in the nation have more Q1 victories than the Tide. Alabama is fourth in the SEC in Quadrant 1 wins (5) while ranking seventh in the league in Q1 and Q2 wins combined with nine.
