Alabama Women’s Tennis Drops Hard-Fought Road Match at No. 38 Tennessee, 4-2

Andie Daniell picks up her 14th singles victory at No. 1 to improve to 23-8 for the 2017-18 season

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Alabama women's tennis team dropped a close battle to No. 38 Tennessee, 4-2, Saturday afternoon at Barksdale Stadium in Knoxville. After dropping the doubles point, the Crimson Tide took the 2-1 lead, but the Volunteers rallied back on courts three, four and six in singles to clinch the match.

Junior Andie Daniell captured her 14^th singles victory at No. 1 to improve to 23-8 for the 2017-18 season.

The Volunteers started the contest with a pair of doubles wins at No. 2 and No. 3 to take the one-point lead heading into singles play. UT's Profit/Sawyer took down freshman Kylie Moulin and sophomore Kimberley Gintrand, 6-3, on court three, while the sophomore duo of Ann Selim and Alba Cortina-Pou tried to rally back from a 5-0 deficit, winning four-straight games, but their efforts fell short to Tennessee's Schuck/Hammond, 6-4.

In singles play, Daniell began to initiate a comeback, taking care of UT's Sadie Hammond in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1. Then, senior Smith Hinton gave the Tide the 2-1 advantage, downing Elizabeth Profit, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 2.

However, the Volunteers responded by winning back-to-back matches at No. 3 and No. 4 to regain the lead. Tennessee's Ariadna Riley defeated sophomore Jacqueline Pelletier, 6-0, 7-5, on court three, while UT's Kaitlin Staines topped Selim (UA) 6-4, 7-5, on court four.

With the match on the line, competition heated up as both contests on the remaining courts were forced to a third set, but Tennessee's Johanna Silva clinched the match, defeating Moulin, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 6.

The Crimson Tide falls to 13-12 on the season and 0-9 in conference play, while the Volunteers improve to 15-7 overall and 2-7 in league competition.

Up next, Alabama will wrap up its four-match road swing facing No. 48 Arkansas on April 6 and Missouri on April 8.
