Three players fired in goals to propel the Crimson Tide past the Bulldogs
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Alabama soccer team blanked the Samford Bulldogs, 3-0, Saturday night at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium. Three players knocked in goals to propel the Crimson Tide past the Bulldogs.
In the first half, Alabama remained on the attack as junior Abbie Boswell fired two shots towards the goal, but they hit the crossbar before freshman Taylor Morgan was able to break the boards. Morgan converted the game-winner 20-yards out, midway through the first stanza to take the 1-0 lead at halftime.
In the second half, the Crimson Tide continued to challenge Samford, knocking in two more goals to silence the Bulldogs. On a corner kick inserted by junior Emma Welch, freshman Casey Wertz delivered the second punch to take the 2-0 lead. Moments later, junior Kayla Mouton received a throughball from freshman Gabby Duca and drilled the ball to the top corner from close range to complete the shutout.
In the net, redshirt freshman Alex Plavin recorded her second shutout of the spring season, making two great saves when the score was 2-0 to keep the Bulldogs from gaining any momentum.
During the 2017 fall season, Alabama defeated Samford 2-1 on Aug 20 in Tuscaloosa.
Up next, Alabama will return to the Alabama Soccer Stadium on Friday, April 13 to face UAB at 7 p.m. CT, before wrapping up spring action on the road at Florida State on April 21.
