
No. 44 Alabama Men’s Tennis Begins SEC Play at Home This Weekend

The Crimson Tide will take on No. 34 Vanderbilt on Friday at 6 p.m. and then No. 28 Kentucky on Sunday at 1 p.m.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The No. 44-ranked Alabama men's tennis team is set to open Southeastern Conference play by hosting No. 34 Vanderbilt on Friday at 6 p.m. and No. 28 Kentucky on Sunday at 1 p.m. in the Alabama Tennis Stadium.
The Crimson Tide (14-1) is off to its best start since 1976 despite coming off its first loss of the season in a 4-3 heartbreaker to No. 20 Arizona State in the Blue Gray National Tennis Classic Championship on Saturday.
So far this season the Tide has yet to concede a doubles point, compiling a 15-0 in doubles play. Alabama is led by the No.34-ranked pair of junior Mazen Osama and sophomore Edson Ortiz who have a perfect 10-0 mark, while the No. 40-ranked sophomore duo of Alexey Nesterov and Thibault Cancel are 8-1 in the 2018 campaign.
In singles play, Osama is ranked No. 113 and has earned a 6-1 mark in the No. 1 spot for the Tide, while Ortiz leads in wins with a 12-1 record.
The Commodores (9-2) comes into Friday's match on a five-match win streak after defeating Northwestern and Indiana on the road last weekend. VU has two players ranked in the latest Oracle/ITA Rankings, with Cameron Klinger earning a No. 50 singles ranking, while teammate Daniel Valent is No. 52 in the nation.
The Wildcats (7-3) will take on Oklahoma on Friday before traveling to Tuscaloosa for Sunday's match. UK has players represented in the most recent rankings, with the doubles pair of Yates/Wallart coming in at No. 54, while in singles Ryotaro Matsumura is No. 63 and Enzo Wallart is No. 115 in the country.
