Welch named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America Women's Soccer Third Team
TUSCALOOSA, ALA. – Alabama senior midfielder Emma Welch earned CoSIDA Academic All-America Women's Soccer Third Team honors for the second year in a row, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday. Welch is the Crimson Tide's first Academic All-American to earn the honor multiple times since Kim Zarzour in 2001-02 and is the seventh Alabama soccer player to earn the accolade.
Welch capped off her career by earning third team honors in back-to-back years. The McDonough, Ga. native was recently named the 2018 SEC Soccer Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The senior co-captain is currently enrolled in the accelerated master's program at the Capstone, where she is pursuing her undergraduate and graduate degree in marketing simultaneously, maintaining a 4.0 GPA in both. She is also a three-time Southeastern Conference Honor Roll member and a President Scholar.
Welch finished her collegiate soccer career as one of the Tide's top contributors, accumulating 23 assists and breaking the program's all-time career assists record.
Welch received Academic All-District honors in voting by CoSIDA members to become eligible for Academic All-America consideration.
