The holiday kickoff event marked the 27th-consecutive year that the Crimson Tide has taken part in the Project Angel Tree and the second year in a row the event has been held at Bryant-Denny stadium
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Members of Alabama Athletics' Student-Athlete Advisory Committee kicked off the holiday season by welcoming local children to Bryant-Denny Stadium for the Athletics Department's and SAAC's annual Project Angel Tree event.
The Crimson Tide student-athletes donated money, shopped for and wrapped Christmas gifts for more than 40 children from the West Alabama community, with all the Crimson Tide's teams participating in the outreach project.
"Project Angel Tree gives us the opportunity to give back in a meaningful way," senior swimmer Christian Arseneau said. "There is no better feeling than helping put a smile on somebody's face. We appreciate everyone who made this possible through their time, effort and donations."
During this year's event the student-athletes and their visitors shared a meal, took part in a variety of holiday inspired activities and took a tour of the Crimson Tide's football stadium.
"Being able to participate in Project Angel Tree is always a blessing and one of my favorite community events we do with SAAC," soccer senior Emma Welch said. "I particularly love it because it has to do with Christmas and kids. We get to give gifts to the kids and see the excitement on their faces and how happy they are."
The event marked the 27th-consecutive year that Alabama Athletics has participated in Project Angel Tree, making it one of the longest tenured groups in the state of Alabama to take part in the project.
The Crimson Tide's involvement in Project Angel Tree is the latest in a series of events and programming designed to fulfill Alabama Life Skill's mission to provide opportunities for growth through personal development and service initiatives, empowering Crimson Tide student-athletes to be difference makers and people of positive influence as they pursue success at Alabama and beyond.
