
Alabama Drops Opening Game of ASU Classic Against Tulsa Despite Megan Abrams’ Career Game

Freshman Megan Abrams finished the game with a career-high 19 points
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Alabama women's basketball team dropped its opening game in the Arizona State Classic to Tulsa, 80-73, despite a career-high 19 points from freshman Megan Abrams on Saturday inside Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe, Ariz.
With the loss the Crimson Tide falls to 5-2, while the Golden Hurricane improves to 5-3. The Tide will take on Louisiana Tech tomorrow afternoon at 12:30 p.m. CT to finish out the ASU Classic.
In her first six games, Abrams shot 1-of-19 before connecting on 7-of-11 attempts in Saturday's game and finishing with a team-high 19 points. Junior Cierra Johnson added 10 points, while junior Jasmine Walker chipped in nine points and six rebounds.
The Tide got off to a slow start to begin the lead with Tulsa building a double-digit lead five minutes into the game, as the Golden Hurricane held the 24-13 edge after the first quarter.
The two sides battled back-and-forth in the second period, with Alabama outscoring Tulsa 19-17 in the quarter. The Golden Hurricane led 41-32 going into the halftime break.
In the third quarter, Tulsa connected on eight-straight field goals over a five-minute span and extended the advantage to 66-49 heading into the fourth quarter.
Alabama battled in the fourth quarter, however, Tulsa held the double-digit edge throughout the majority of the period before the Tide used a 9-0 to close out the game.
The Tide shot 47 percent (28-of-59) for the game and outscored the Golden Hurricane 36-26 in the paint, while the Alabama bench outscored the Tulsa reserves, 37-12.
