Alabama Swimmer Justine Macfarlane Picks Up Win at the Georgia Tech Invitational

ATLANTA – Alabama swimming and diving picked up 12 top-three finishes on day two of the Georgia Tech Invitational being held at the McAuley Aquatic Center in the Atlanta, Ga., this weekend.
The Crimson Tide women got the night started with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay. Freshman Rhyan White, senior Justine Macfarlane, sophomore Flora Molnar and freshman Kalia Antoniou combined for a 1:38.05 for the silver.
Macfarlane picked up the Tide's lone win of the night when she clocked a 1:00.28 to take first in the 100 breaststroke. Sophomore Kalia Wong posted her second career-best time of the day in the finals of 100 breaststroke, going 1:01.02 to move up to sixth all-time at Alabama.
White matched her prelim time in the 100 backstroke, taking second place with a 52.55, which ranks her second all-time at UA, just .06 off the school record. Molnar went 52.84 in the 100 butterfly to take second place, while Kullmann clocked a 1:46.54 to take third in the 200 freestyle.
Kullmann, freshman Kensey McMahon, junior Cameron Brown and freshman Kalia Antoniou closed the night with a third-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay after posting a time of 7:13.46.
The Tide men also got the night started with a runner-up finish in the 200 medley relay. Junior Zane Waddell combined with seniors Laurent Bams, Knox Auerbach and Robert Howard to post a 1:24.51 for the runner-up finish. Waddell and Howard posted the fastest opening and closing relay split of the night.
Waddell took second in both the 100 backstroke and the 100 butterfly, stopping the clock at 45.91 and 46.45, respectively. During prelims, he posted a career-best 46.33 in the 100 butterfly. Howard was second in the 200 freestyle with a career-best 1:33.60, while Bams was second in the 100 breaststroke with a 52.78.
Freshman Nicholas Perera touched the wall at 3:51.11 in the 400 individual medley, dropping more than a second and a half off his prelims time to rank sixth all-time at UA.
Howard, Bams, senior Christian Arseneau and Perera closed the day with a third-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay after posting 6:27.03.
The Crimson Tide closes the meet Saturday with the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 1,650 freestyle as well as platform diving.
