TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball's third signee of the early signing period is catcher Karla Hice from Ardmore, Ala.
"Karla comes from a great family and softball background and will be a great addition to our Alabama softball family," UA head coach Patrick Murphy said. "Her size and agility behind the plate will serve her well as she catches one of the best pitching staffs we have assembled at Alabama. Both her high school and summer ball teams have had great success during her career."
As a catcher at Ardmore High School, she led her team to 2018 county, area and regional championships, ultimately placing fifth at the state championships. Hice had a .455 batting average, .587 on base percentage and 44 RBIs in 2018, earning a spot on the 2018 Alabama North/South All-Star Team and First Team All-State honors for the second-straight year. Her team placed fourth at state in 2017 and were runners-up at regionals after earning county and area titles, with Hice hitting .477 with 62 RBIs and 14 home runs.
Her club team, Alabama Sparks Elite, earned a berth at PGF nationals in 2017 and posted a top-four finish. Her 14U team was ranked in the top 25 by FloSoftball in 2015 and earned an invite to PGF nationals.
Hice is the third to sign a national letter of intent with Alabama during the early signing period, joining outfielder Jenna Johnson from Franklin, Tenn., and pitcher Alexis Kilfoyl from Land O' Lakes, Fla.
