Women’s Basketball Gets Back in Action with Exhibition Against Faulkner on Sunday

The Crimson Tide will take on the Lady Eagles at 3 p.m. on Sunday inside Coleman Coliseum
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's basketball team is set to play in its first of two exhibition games to begin the 2018-19 season when it hosts Faulkner University at Coleman Coliseum on Sunday afternoon. Tip is slated for 3 p.m. CT, and admission is free.
OPENING TIP
- Alabama returns just 41 percent of its scoring from a season ago after graduating six seniors from a season ago.
- The Crimson Tide has added a plethora of talent in six highly-touted freshmen, and JUCO Player of the Year, Cierra Johnson.
- Five of the six Alabama freshmen have won at least one state championship in their high school career, while all six have played for a state title.
- This is the second exhibition meeting between Alabama and Faulkner. The Tide won the first meeting, 93-34, on Nov. 9, 2015.
- Alabama has gone 5-0 in exhibitions under head coach Kristy Curry.
IN THE RECORD BOOKS
- Junior Ashley Knight is just 39 blocks away from breaking Alabama's all-time block record, with 149 blocks in her career. Last year she finished No. 4 in the Tide record books with 59 blocks in a single-season. Knight still holds the single-season record for blocks with 90 in 2016-17.
- Knight also currently holds the highest career field goal percentage (.561 – min. 295 attempts) in Alabama history. The Austin, Texas native, has made 166-of-296 attempts in her two-year career.
- Junior point guard Jordan Lewis is currently sitting at No. 7 all-time at Alabama in career assists per game with 3.9 in her two-year stint with the Tide. Lewis also came in at No. 8 in the UA record books in single-season assists with 154 during the 2016-17 season.
ABOUT FAULKNER
- The Lady Eagles finished the regular season third in Southern States Athletic Conference last season and lost in conference tournament semifinals.
- Faulkner earned an at-large bid to NAIA National Tournament where the Eagles lost to Campbellsville in the opening round, 79-63.
- The Lady Eagles were 11-0 last season in games decided by seven or fewer points.
- The team is 156-91 all-time.
- Reed Sutton has been the head coach since the inception of the program in 2010.
