The Crimson Tide had five different players score in double figures
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's basketball team used a balanced attack that included five different players scoring in double figures in its, 100-44, exhibition win over Faulkner University on Sunday afternoon at Coleman Coliseum.
"I thought today was exactly what we needed this time of year," head coach Kristy Curry said. "I feel like today makes us a whole lot better. We wanted to play two exhibitions this season instead of a scrimmage and an exhibition, to put us in a position to put our jerseys on and have a real game-like environment. To have five players in double figures and to rebound the ball the way we did was a great start for us."
The Crimson Tide was paced by junior Cierra Johnson's 15 points, six assists and six rebounds, while freshman Allie Craig Cruce also added 15 points in the win. Other double-digit scorers included, junior Jasmine Walker with 14, along with junior Ashley Knight and freshman De'Sha Benjamin who totaled 10 points apiece.
Alabama jumped out to a fast start and held the 14-3 lead at the game's first media timeout. The Tide never looked back as it led for the entire game. UA held a 30-11 advantage over the Lady Eagles after the first 10 minutes of action.
The Tide continued to build its lead in the second quarter and extended the advantage to 50-21 at the halftime break.
Alabama steadily grew its lead in the third and entered the final period up 78-31.
In the fourth quarter, the Crimson Tide outscored the Lady Eagles 22-13 on its way to the 100-44 victory.
The Tide shot 52 percent (38-of-73) from the floor while holding the Lady Eagles to 29 percent (16-of-54) shooting. Alabama also scored 31 points off of 26 Faulkner turnovers. The UA bench contributed in a big way, outscoring the Faulkner bench 51-23.
The Tide will be back in action on Thursday, Nov. 1, when it takes on Mississippi College in its second and final exhibition of the season. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. CT inside Coleman Coliseum.
