The Tide scored two unanswered goals in the first half to push past the Bulldogs

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's soccer team battled to a 2-1 victory over Samford to improve to 2-0 on the season, Sunday night at the Alabama Soccer Complex. The Crimson Tide scored two goals in the first half and held the Bulldog offense scoreless for the final 88 minutes of the contest.

"It was kind of the exact opposite of the first game against Jacksonville State where we found ourselves down a goal," coach Wes Hart said. "Not the start we wanted, but I'm proud of our group not getting discouraged after giving up the early goal. We found a way to get back into the game. We scored two very nice goals, and I thought for the remainder of the first half we played well. In the second half, it was not the performance that we wanted, but we came away with the win over a very good opponent."

After falling behind early in the first two minutes of the match, Alabama answered back with a goal from Taylor Morgan, her first of her career, to tie the game at 1-1. The Crimson Tide struck again, after a 37-minute lightning delay, when Kayla Mouton netted her second goal of the season to give Bama the 2-1 lead, which proved to be the difference in the game. Celia Jimenez Delgado and Emma Welch were also credited with an assist apiece in the match.

In the tightly contested match, Samford outshot Alabama, 13-12, but the Tide earned six corner kicks to the Bulldogs five. The game also saw five yellow cards handed out in the physical instate showdown.

Alabama returns to the pitch on Thursday evening at 7 p.m. CT to take on the South Florida Bulls at the Alabama Soccer Complex.
