
Alabama Picked to Top SEC West, Win 2017 SEC Championship

Crimson Tide tabbed as division and conference favorite by media attending SEC Media Days this week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Alabama football team was selected as the favorite to win the Southeastern Conference's Western Division and the 2017 SEC Championship by media members in attendance at the conference's annual media days, which concluded its four-day run on Thursday.
Alabama was picked to win the SEC Western Division with 225 first-place votes and 1,683 points, ranking ahead of Auburn, which was predicted to finish second in the division with 1,329 points. The Crimson Tide also outpolled Auburn in the voting for SEC champion, as the Tide finished with 217 points to Auburn's 11. Georgia was third in the conference champion voting with six points.
Alabama enters 2017 having won three consecutive SEC titles and will open the season on Sept. 2 in Atlanta, Ga., against Florida State in the annual Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. CT kickoff on ABC.
