Alabama Track & Field Prepping for SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships

Men’s 4x400-meter relay will run at Ole Miss on Saturday, remainder of team gearing up for conference meet
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama will send its men's 4x400-meter relay team to Oxford, Miss. on Saturday to compete in the Ole Miss Classic. The remainder of both the men's and women's teams will be off this weekend in preparation for the 2017 Southeastern Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will take place May 11-13 at South Carolina's Cregger Track in Columbia, S.C.
Alabama Men No. 5, Women No. 10 in Latest USTFCCCA Outdoor Rankings
The Alabama track and field teams held steady in the rankings this week as the men remain at No. 5 and the women remain at No. 10 in the U.S. Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Team Rankings, released Monday. The men's team posted 200.09 points while the women's team earned 151.69 points. Regionally, the men are ranked No. 1 in the South region for the fourth week in a row, while the women remain at No. 3 for the third-consecutive week.

"We had some good performances last week at the SEC Relays, particularly in the women's relays. This week will be a chance for us to give our men's 4x400 relay a chance to get in some additional work before the SEC Championships. We've had a productive spring to this point now it's time to focus on the championship portion of the schedule."

Alabama's women's relay teams broke one 30-year-old school record and narrowly missed breaking another at the SEC Relays at LSU's Bernie Moore Track Stadium in Baton Rouge, La.
The 4x100-meter relay squad of seniors Vanessa Clerveaux, Diamond Gause, freshman Symone Darius and senior Quanesha Burks opened the day with a school record time of 43.17 in the women's 4x100-meter relay. The time surpasses the previous UA record of 43.54 set at the 1987 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Alabama's quartet of freshman Takyera Roberson, Darius, Gause and senior Domonique Williams ran the second-fastest 4x400-meter relay school history with a time of 3:28.65.
Junior Haley Teel finished second in the women's shot put with a personal-best mark of 56-0 ½ (17.08m). The effort ranks No. 2 all-time at Alabama. Teel now holds seven of the top 10 shot put marks in school history.
For the men, sophomore Will Herrscher finished second in the pole vault with a personal-best clearance of 17-9 ¼ (5.42m), the No. 2 pole vault mark all-time at Alabama. Herrscher has now recorded the second-, third- and fourth-best vaults in school history this season.
