Alabama Women’s Golf Ties for Second in Stroke Play Round at Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic

Crimson Tide battles high winds, cool temperatures to set up meeting with USC in opening round of match play on Saturday
ATHENS, Ga. – The Alabama women's golf team played through 20-mile-an-hour winds and cool temperatures to tie for second in the stroke play round on Friday and advance to Saturday's match play quarterfinals at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic.
Playing at the par-72, 6,300-yard University of Georgia Golf Club, Alabama battled the conditions as much as the course on Friday. The Crimson Tide (303) finished at 15-over par, tying with Denver, six shots behind host Georgia (297), which finished first at 9-over par. Arkansas (304) finished fourth at 16-over par. Auburn, Oklahoma State and USC (310) tied for fifth at 22-over par.
Kristen Gillman was the low finisher for the Crimson Tide for the second weekend in a row. The freshman carded a 2-under par 70 to finish second in the individual standings. Sophomore Cheyenne Knight (74) was 10th at 2-over par. Junior Lakareber Abe (77) tied for 18th at 5-over par. Sophomore Lauren Stephenson (82) tied for 43rd at 10-over par. Senior Mia Landegren (87) finished 58th at 15-over par.
Alabama advances to the match play round as the No. 3 seed and will face No. 6 seed USC in the quarterfinals beginning at 7:40 a.m. CT on Saturday. The winner of that match will play the winner of the match between No. 2 Denver and No. 7 Oklahoma State in Saturday afternoon's semifinal, which is scheduled to begin at 12:40 p.m. The championship match will tee off on Sunday at 8:20 a.m. CT.
