Alabama Women’s Tennis Hosts In-State Rival Auburn in Lone Contest of the Weekend

The Crimson Tide is set to host in-state rival Auburn on Friday, April 7, at 6 p.m. CT at the Alabama Tennis Stadium
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The 38th-ranked Alabama women's tennis team is set to host in-state rival Auburn on Friday, April 7, at 6 p.m. CT at the Alabama Tennis Stadium. Friday's contest against the 12th-ranked Tigers (19-7, 3-6 SEC) marks the only match of the weekend for the Crimson Tide (7-13, 1-9 SEC).
Promotions:
Friday's match will serve as Crimson Let's Cram the Complex. Fans are encouraged to come show support against in-state rival and SEC foe Auburn. There will also be free hamburgers, hotdogs, drinks and snacks provided for Alabama fans.
Last Time Out:
Alabama lost a pair of Southeastern Conference road matches last weekend. The Tide lost a 4-0 decision to Florida on Friday night, before falling to South Carolina in a 4-3 thriller on Sunday afternoon.
Alabama Notes:
The Alabama women's tennis team earned a No. 38 national ranking, which was announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Tuesday. The Tide has two singles players and a doubles tandem that are nationally ranked.
Alabama boasts 46 wins in singles play since beginning the dual match season and 27 victories in doubles.
Senior Erin Routliffe climbed 15 spots to earn a No. 23 ranking in singles after compiling 11 wins since beginning the spring season with all of her matches coming from the top position, which ranks second on the team. Routliffe has registered nine wins over nationally-ranked singles opponents and five victories over nationally-ranked doubles opponents this year. She won two of her four matches last weekend, including a win over a nationally-ranked singles opponent.
Sophomore Andie Daniell earned a No. 121 ranking in singles after collecting a team-best 12 wins in singles since the start of the dual match season. Daniell has recorded two wins over nationally-ranked singles opponents this year.
Routliffe and freshman Maddie Pothoff leaped 18 spots to earn a No. 7 ranking in doubles play after posting an impressive 11-3 record since the start of the spring season with all matches coming from the No. 1 spot.
Auburn Notes:
Auburn enters Friday's match with a 19-7 overall record including a 3-6 mark in league play. Last weekend, the Tigers outlasted the Gamecocks, 4-3, on Friday night, before getting shut out by the Florida Gators in a 4-0 decision on Sunday afternoon.
The Tigers have three singles players and two doubles teams that are nationally ranked. Alizee Michaud, Andie Dikosavljevic and Taylor Russo are ranked No. 31, No. 36 and No. 115 in singles, respectively. Michaud and Russo teamed up to earn a No. 12 ranking in doubles, while Caroline Turner and Georgie Axon partnered up to achieve the No. 49 spot.
Series History:
When Alabama and Auburn face each other on Friday it will mark the 60th time the programs have met, dating back to the 1975 season. The Tide holds a 34-25 advantage in the series. Last year, Auburn outlasted Alabama in a 4-3 decision. The last time the Tide topped the Tigers was during the 2015 season, when Alabama shut out Auburn in a 4-0 result.
