BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Alabama had 65 student-athletes earn a place on the Southeastern Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey announced Wednesday. The Crimson Tide's total was fifth overall and first among those schools that do not sponsor equestrian or rifle.
The Tide's men's swimming and diving team (24) and gymnastics team (14) both led the SEC in their respective sports, while the men's and women's swimming and diving teams combined for a league-best 47 honors.
An SEC-best 21 members of the men's swimming and diving team that finished 10th at this year's NCAA Championships earned the accolade, led by 2017 SEC Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete of the Year Connor Oslin and defending CoSIDA At-Large Academic All-American of the Year Anton McKee.
A conference-best 14 members of this year's Alabama gymnastics sixth-place NCAA championship team made the list, led by 2017 NCAA uneven bars champion Katie Bailey.
A total of 23 members of the Alabama women's swimming and diving team earned a place on the SEC Academic Honor Roll, led by All-American Bailey Scott.
The women's basketball squad placed three players on the list, led by Bryant Award finalist Ashley Williams. Jimmie Taylor earned the honor from men's basketball.
To earn a place on the honor roll, a student-athlete must earn a 3.0 or better grade point average for either the preceding academic year or their career and be a sophomore or better in academic standing. The winter list honors those student-athletes that participate in men's and women's basketball, gymnastics and men's and women's swimming and diving as well as equestrian and rifle.
