LAST TIME OUT: ALABAMA WINS WEEKEND SERIES AT HOME VS. LSU
- Alabama 3, LSU 0: Alabama softball opened its weekend series against LSU with a 3-0 shutout Friday night at Rhoads Stadium. The win is the 500th all-time at the ballpark, the home of the Crimson Tide since 2000. Alabama held LSU hitless through 5.1 innings as Alexis Osorio struck out 11 in the complete-game effort. Chandler Dare set the pace at the leadoff position, going 2-3 with a run scored. The next three in the order each had a hit, including an RBI double by Marisa Runyon batting third. Peyton Grantham drove in the Tide's remaining two runs with a first-inning double.
- LSU 1, Alabama 0: Alabama softball dropped a tightly-contested game to LSU Saturday at Rhoads Stadium, falling 1-0 to even the weekend series. Alabama was held scoreless on just three hits while LSU tallied five hits, driving in the lone run of the game in the top of the fifth. Sydney Littlejohn took the hard-luck loss in the circle, just her second of the season.
- Alabama 4, LSU 2: A key two-run double by Marisa Runyon was the difference-maker in a tightly-contested rubber match Sunday at Rhoads Stadium between Alabama and LSU, with the Crimson Tide coming out on top 4-2 to win the weekend series. Alabama took the first lead of the day in the bottom of second on an RBI single by Gabby Callaway before LSU pulled ahead 2-1 in the next half-inning. A fourth-inning RBI single by Sydney Booker tied the game at 2-2 before Runyon's fifth-inning double put the Tide on top by two, which ultimately proved final.
SEC LEADERS
- Bailey Hemphill is second in the league with 41 walks, just one of two players with over 40 free passes this season. Her .510 on base percentage is seventh in the SEC.
- As the two-hole hitters in 35 of Alabama's 42 games, Demi Turner & Chandler Dare have performed well in that role, leading the league with nine and seven sacrifice bunts, respectively. In conference play, Dare leads the SEC with four while Turner is right behind her with three.
- Alexis Osorio has struck out batters at an incredible rate this season, leading the league and ranking fourth nationally with 217 strikeouts. Her 70 strikeouts in conference play also leads the SEC and she is tied with Auburn's Kaylee Carlson for the most SEC wins with seven.
- Peyton Grantham has found her power stroke in SEC play, leading the league with four home runs and 14 RBIs against conference opponents.
ZEROES IN THE RUN COLUMN
Friday's 3-0 victory over LSU marked the 21st shutout of the season for Alabama. It is the most shutouts in a season since 2011 and the sixth-most in program history, just five shy of tying the single-season record.
