Alabama Women’s Tennis Opens SEC Play on the Road at Ole Miss and Mississippi State

Tide is set to take on Rebels on Friday at 2 p.m. CT and Bulldogs on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women's tennis team travels to the state of Mississippi for a pair of road matches to officially begin the Southeastern Conference portion of this year's schedule. The Crimson Tide (6-4) is set to take on the No. 24-ranked Ole Miss Rebels in Oxford, Miss., on Friday at 2 p.m. CT, before turning around to take on the No. 33-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs in Starkville, Miss., on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
Last Time Out:
Alabama posted a 2-1 mark at the 69th annual Blue Gray National Tennis Classic. In the first round, the Tide shutout No. 40 Tulsa in a 4-0 decision. Alabama fell short in the second round against No. 5 Texas Tech, 4-0, before going on to blank Denver in a 4-0 decision in its final contest of the two-day tournament.
Alabama Notes:
The Tide earned a No. 34 national team ranking after a 6-4 start to begin the 2017 dual match season, as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Tuesday. Alabama boasts a 26-16 mark in singles play since beginning the dual match season and it has an impressive 16-7 record in doubles play. Sophomore Andie Daniell remains undefeated in singles play so far this season at 7-0, as she is 1-0 and 6-0 from the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots, respectively. Senior Erin Routliffe and freshman Maddie Pothoff remain undefeated at 6-0 in doubles play since the dual match season began, with all six of their victories coming from the No. 1 doubles position.
Ole Miss Notes:
Ole Miss enters Friday's match with a 9-2 overall record. Most recently, the Rebels shutout the Memphis Tigers, 4-0, in its lone contest of the weekend. The Rebels have two players that are nationally-ranked in singles play, as Arianne Hartono and Alexa Bortles enter Friday's match at No. 35 and No. 115, respectively.
Mississippi State Notes:
Mississippi State currently has a 7-1 overall record, and will take on No. 6 Auburn on Friday before arriving to Tuscaloosa on Sunday. The Bulldogs defeated Georgia State in a 6-1 decision in its lone match last weekend. Mississippi State has one player nationally-ranked in singles play, as Jasmine Lee is currently ranked No. 73. The Bulldogs also have one doubles pair that is nationally-ranked, as Lisa Mari Rioux and Jasmine Lee teamed up to achieve a No. 8 ranking..
Series History:
When Alabama and Ole Miss face each other on Friday it will mark the 48th time the two programs have met, dating back to the 1976 season. The Rebels hold a 30-17 advantage in the series. Last year, Ole Miss defeated Alabama in a 5-2 decision during the regular season. The last time the Tide topped the Rebels came in 2015, when Alabama claimed a 4-1 decision during the regular season.
When the Tide and the Bulldogs square off against each other on Sunday, it will mark the 48th time the two schools have squared off, dating back to the 1976 season. Mississippi State holds a 34-13 advantage in the series. Last year, the Bulldogs defeated the Tide in a 7-0 decision during the regular season. The last time Alabama topped Mississippi State was during the 2014 campaign, when the Tide shutout the Bulldogs, 4-0.
