All five of the Crimson Tide’s entries in the Women’s Open 8+ finish in the top 10
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Alabama Rowing closed its weekend at the Head of the Hooch regatta Sunday, as all five Crimson Tide crews in the Women's Open 8+ finished in the top 10, including gold and bronze medals.
"Today was an excellent day for achieving some of the goals we had set out," UA head coach Larry Davis said. "We cleaned up a number of things that we wanted to improve on from yesterday. The end result was that, for the first time, we had two varsity crews medal in the Open 8+ including a gold medal."
The Crimson Tide's gold medal crew in the Open 8+ crossed the line 30 seconds ahead of second-place Clemson with a time of 17:18.41 and Alabama's third-place boat finished with a time of 18:07.15. The Tide rounded out the event finishing sixth (18:34.51), ninth (19:11.29) and tenth (19:25.24).
Alabama's five top-10 finishes Sunday brings the weekend's total to 13, including one gold medal, one silver and two bronze over three events including Sunday's Open 8+ and Saturday's Championship 8+ and Championship 2x.
"Overall, these two days of racing at the Head of the Hooch was the best we've ever done as a team. All but one crew this weekend finished in the top 10, which is a first for us. We picked up four medals and the overall team performance bodes well for what we can accomplish in the spring. I'm very proud of what our athletes accomplished this weekend."
The Tide will close out its fall season on Saturday, Nov. 11 in Tuscaloosa, racing against Central Florida.
