CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Alabama rowing earned a pair of top-10 finishes Saturday at the Head of the Charles, winning the Club 4+ and finishing seventh in the Club 8+.
"I'm extremely pleased with both crews," UA head coach Larry Davis said. "Two top-10 finishes including our first gold medal at the Charles is a good indication that the team is doing what they need to be doing this fall. We're looking forward to an even greater performance at the Head of the Hooch at the beginning of November."
For the second-straight week, Alabama earned a gold medal with its top 4+ crew. Saturday's finish not only marks the program's first event win at the Head of the Charles in any race but it is a course record in the 4+. Competing in the Women's Club 4+, the Crimson Tide led the field with a time of 18:02.402, over 20 second ahead of second-place Penn and conference rival Tennessee, who finished third.
Alabama's Club 8+ boat followed with a seventh-place finish in its race, crossing the line in 17:03.774 just behind Syracuse and Northeastern in a tight grouping separated by just eight seconds.
In two weeks, the Tide will return to Chattanooga for the Head of the Hooch on Nov. 4-5. Alabama will then conclude its fall season the following weekend in Tuscaloosa, facing UCF on Saturday, Nov. 11.
