Alabama Athletics Honors Scholar-Athletes at Women's Basketball Game Thursday

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The University of Alabama Athletics Department put together another strong showing in the classroom this past semester, with more than 400 Crimson Tide student-athletes carrying a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better into the spring semester.
All of those student-athletes carrying a 3.0 GPA for their careers will be honored Thursday night in Coleman Coliseum during the Alabama women's basketball game against Kentucky. The game will get underway at 7 p.m. CT and the scholar-athlete recognition will be held at halftime.
Of the more than 400 student-athletes representing all 17 varsity programs who are carrying a career GPA of 3.0 or better, more than 70 have a 4.0 GPA for their careers and more than 250 carry a 3.5 or better cumulative GPA.
Overall, Alabama student-athletes posted a combined grade point average of 3.270 for the fall semester, nearly a tenth of a point better than any of the previous three years. The Tide women, led by the tennis team's 3.9 GPA, posted a 3.482 overall GPA, while Alabama's men earned a 3.046 GPA, led by the swimming and diving team's 3.55. Both the women's and men's fall GPAs were the highest over the last four years.
In all, 14 of Alabama's 17 programs posted better than a 3.0 team GPA in the fall, with eight going above 3.50 and 11 over 3.20.
Individually, more than 100 Crimson Tide student-athletes earned a 4.0 grade point average for the fall semester. That total includes NCAA champion Pavel Romanov (men's swimming and diving) as well as All-Americans Laurent Bams, Robert Howard and Anton McKee (men's swimming and diving), Caroline Korst (women's swimming and diving), Katelyn Greenleaf (women's track and field/cross country), Sidney Littlejohn (softball) and Cheyenne Knight (women's golf).
