BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Alabama soccer team lost to Samford, 1-0, on Tuesday night at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium to conclude its non-conference portion of the schedule. The Crimson Tide falls to an overall 6-2 record, while the Bulldogs improve to 3-2-2.
"I'm obviously disappointed with the result, but not in the way we played," said head coach Wes Hart. "I thought we did some good things. We possessed the ball well at times and we created some good chances. Unfortunately our shots didn't fall tonight. Credit to Samford though, as they played a great game tonight. Our focus now needs to shift to Kentucky. We can't let this loss take away from all the good things we have done to this point."
The first half was a possession battle as the score was tied at 0-0 going into halftime. Alabama led in shots (6-3) and corner kicks (3-0) going into intermission. Sophomore Abbie Boswell registered five shots plus one shot on goal, while senior Auburn Mercer tallied one shot in the half. Junior goalkeeper Kat Stratton's lone save of the half came in the 19th minute.
In the second half, Samford's Jermaine Seoposenw converted from 15 yards out in the  49th minute to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. Alabama tried to make a late second half push, but it wasn't enough as Seoposenw's goal resulted in the final score. The Tide recorded nine shots, two shots on goal and three corner kicks in the second half. Stratton collected seven saves between the posts, and Boswell led the Tide's offensive attack in the half registering four shots including one shot on goal. Â
Alabama compiled 15 shots, three shots on goal and six corner kicks in the 90 minute affair. Stratton tallied eight total saves in the contest, and with tonight's loss her overall record between the posts falls to 6-2.
The Tide will be back in action on Sunday, Sept. 18, when it travels to Lexington, Ken., to continue Southeastern Conference play taking on Kentucky in a match that will be broadcasted on the SEC Network at 4 p.m. CT.
