Meet the Tide: Madi Moore

Alabama welcomes six newcomers to the 2016 team. We will be posting Q&A features with all six leading into the season. Our fifth Q&A is with freshman Madi Moore from Winfield, Ala.
How did you get started playing softball?
"I played tee-ball when I was younger, but I didn't take it that seriously. It was just something for me to do for fun. I always loved being outside. A couple of years after tee-ball, I played with a baseball team in my town for a couple seasons because there wasn't a softball team and I decided that I wanted to keep playing. Eventually, a softball team popped up and I started playing softball. I also played basketball until the beginning of high school, but softball became my main sport in high school."
When did you realize that playing softball at the collegiate level was a possibility?
"I came from a small school so I played on varsity in middle school. Around seventh grade is when I really started taking softball seriously."
Living in Alabama, were you an Alabama fan growing up?
"I live 60 miles north of Tuscaloosa so I've been an Alabama fan all my life. I thought Alabama was the school for me when I started my search. There were some other schools that I was looking at though, like Samford and Mississippi State. Those were the main schools that I was deciding between."
Outside of being a fan growing up, what set Alabama apart from the other schools?
"I've always seen the team chemistry and I wanted to be a part of it. It's a special thing that they share."
What are some of your impressions so far to college life as a softball player at Alabama?
"It's pretty much what I thought it would be. The time management is pretty tough, but not impossible. There's no other team I would rather be a part of."
What are some of your team and individual goals going into the season?
"I just want to help the team in any way that I can. It doesn't matter what role it is, I'll figure it out. We want to get to the national championship."
What is some advice that you would give to a young aspiring softball player?
"No matter who tells you that you can't do something, believe that you can do it. I had a lot of people tell me that I couldn't do something or get here at Alabama, and here I am. Keep working even though someone tells you that you can't do it. You can totally do it."
