Former Alabama players continue to rank among league leaders on both sides of the ball
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Below is a look at some of the highlights from last week by former Crimson Tide players currently in the NFL.
Julio Jones put on a record-breaking performance, hauling in 10 passes for 135 yards as the Atlanta Falcons fell to the Philadelphia Eagles, 24-15. His week 10 performance marked his sixth 100-yard game of the season and fourth in the past five weeks. On the season, Jones has amassed a league-leading 1,105 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 61 catches. He currently ranks second among wideouts in yards after the catch (353), fourth in receptions (61) and ninth in touchdowns (5).
In just his sixth season, Jones continues to re-write the NFL record books. He became the 14th player in NFL history to record at least 1,100 receiving yards in his team's first 10 games of the season, and he is the only player to accomplish the feat twice. Through 75 career games, Jones has grabbed 475 passes for 7,306 yards and 39 touchdowns. His reception total is the most in NFL history for a player in the first 75 games of his career, while his receiving-yardage total of 7,306 is the most by a player in the post-merger NFL over that time.
A pair of former Crimson Tide standouts went head-to-head on Monday Night Football, as Landon Collins and the New York Giants welcomed the Cincinnati Bengals and Dre Kirkpatrick to town.
Landon Collins continued his stellar play against the Bengals, finishing with five tackles and an interception to lead the Giants to a 21-20 victory over the Bengals. The interception was Collins' fourth in his last three games.
The starting safety of the Giants, Collins is currently enjoying a breakout season in 2016, recording 74 tackles, four interceptions, three sacks and seven pass breakups. He leads all secondary defenders in tackles (74) and sacks (3), while ranking second in interceptions (4). Collins is the only player in the NFL to lead his team in all three statistical categories.
Kirkpatrick also grabbed an interception on Monday Night Football to go along with five tackles. On the season, Kirkpatrick has 27 tackles, two interceptions and five pass breakups. His two picks ties for the Bengals' team lead.
Texans corner Kareem Jackson recorded six tackles and returned an interception for a touchdown to help lead Houston to a 24-21 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars last Sunday. Jackson is now tied for first in franchise history with 13 career interceptions. He is also the only player in team history to have three career interception returns for a touchdown.
Another pair of former Alabama standouts met in the late game on Sunday Night Football, with Dont'a Hightower of the New England Patriots squaring off against Jarran Reed and the Seattle Seahawks in Sunday's premiere matchup.
Dont'a Hightower once again led the New England defense in tackles, notching 10 stops and a pass breakup in the Patriots' 31-24 loss to Seattle. Reed set a new personal mark with five tackles, including a half sack, in the Seahawks' win in Foxborough.
